Hello! I'm Hope. I received my Bachelor's degree with a double major in Piano performance and German Studies. I teach piano and accordion at all levels, and I also teach voice. I teach German as well.

About Hope

I am a professional accordionist, pianist and singer. I speak German and Thai. I love sharing arts and culture with everyone and showing students the unique ways in which it can show up as a valuable skill in your life.

I have been an exchange student in Chumphae, Thailand through the Fort Wayne Rotary Club. I have traveled several times to Germany and Austria.

As a musician I have performed with the Lyric Opera Orchestra, Northwestern University Contemporary Music Ensemble and most recently served as assistant conductor for the Matchbox Magic Flute at The Goodman Theatre.

About the lesson

As I was going through school, I heard many false truths such as, "you're not going to make any money," or "most of the world speaks English, so English speakers don't need to learn foreign language." Society often sends the message that arts and foreign language are not necessary. But I'm a living example of the complete opposite! I have found many unique ways to utilize all of my skills in my professional career in ways which have led me to success and happiness.

I have my Bachelor's in Piano performance and I have been teaching private lessons for 15 years. I have a lot of real world experience applying my knowledge of music to unique performance opportunities. In 2013, I founded an orchestra in my name. We performed our own original music until 2017 when I moved to Chicago. I play accordion in the local punk/absurdist marching band Mucca Pazza, I play piano in my own bands, and I perform live regularly on accordion and piano. I write a lot of my own music and even released a solo ablum.

I have taught students as young as 3 and as old as 70. It's never too late to try something new! My approach to teaching and music making aims to be inclusive, to be encouraging of each unique individual, and to highlight the interconnectedness of us all. Music is for everybody.

Regarding German, I currently work as a translator and tutor. I have experience as a Duolingo Global Ambassador hosting language learning events in German and in Thai for the public. I use both languages on a daily basis.

I want to help you get that good grade. I also want to help show you how big the world is, and how your knowledge applies beyond the classroom. It can be easy to get discouraged by the difficulty of a concept or the development of a skill. I want to help you understand and master these difficult concepts/skills.
