About Justin
Eighteen years of coaching competitive pianists has shown me exactly what it takes to win at a serious level and it is rarely comfortable to get there. I came up through a competitive performing background myself which is exactly why I refuse to waste a student's time with gentle vague feedback that does not actually fix anything. My studio has a reputation for being tough and I embrace that completely because soft coaching produces soft results on a competition stage where judges show no mercy. I hold students to standards that sometimes feel unreasonable in the moment but every single one of my competition winners has told me afterward it was worth it. This approach is not for everyone and I make that extremely clear before a student even commits to working with me. After eighteen years and seven hundred thirty students the wall of competition results in my studio speaks louder than any gentle encouragement ever could.

I do not sugarcoat anything in my studio because eighteen years of coaching competitive pianists has taught me that comfort and honest brutal feedback rarely coexist in the same room. Every single lesson is built around a specific measurable technical weakness that needs eliminating and I tell students exactly what is wrong the moment I hear it not later. Mock competitions happen constantly and I judge them the same way a real panel would meaning no participation trophies and no softening a poor result to protect feelings. Students train for stamina precision and consistency under pressure because technically pretty playing that falls apart under stage nerves wins nothing at the level I coach for. I push repertoire choices that are genuinely difficult on purpose because easy safe pieces do not separate winners from everyone else on a competition stage. Recovery and mental toughness get drilled just as hard as technical skill because I have watched talented pianists lose simply because they fell apart mentally under real pressure. This is intense demanding work built specifically for students chasing real competitive results not casual enjoyment.
