About Hope

I am a History and German BA(Hons) graduate who studied at the University of Liverpool, having completed a year abroad in Potsdam, Germany as an English language assistant in two schools, teaching students aged 6-14. I thoroughly enjoy history, politics and films and continued specialisations with them at uni and with the time I have spare, I would like to help younger students through the very stressful time of exams. I have a year’s experience of teaching; including lesson planning, marking, developing and delivering lessons and communicating with parents- as well as 50+ hours of informal tutoring in history and politics.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is very much student orientated. I am happy to read over essay drafts, homework etc as well as go over any topics the student is unsure about. I like to keep things quite informal and change my approach and style to what the student needs. History, Film Studies, Politics: The lessons are on average around 30-45mins long, although other times can be discussed and will focus on current school work with extra feedback, helping with essay planning, revision exercises and study techniques. These lessons are aimed at GCSE to A-level students. English as a second language: These lessons are aimed at English learners at any level and will have an emphasis on speaking practice through conversations, presentations and dialogues. However, these lessons can also cover grammar, reading/writing, listening or general cultural subjects that the student may find interesting or need to study for exams/tests. I achieved A A B in my A-levels (Politics, film studies, history) and currently have a 2:1-1 average at university. I believe that one of the positive attributes of these lessons is that I was in the student's shoes very recently and so can accurately adapt to the constantly changing needs of a school pupil, whilst my experience in a school environment has taught me the best approaches to active learning and teaching.
