About Josie
I am a Graduate in History from the University of Nottingham with a specialisation in Medieval and Early Modern History. I have been teaching for one year now, both online and in person, one-on-one and for classes across a vast range of subjects. I focus primarily on History, English Literature, English Language, Philosophy and Religious Studies. However, I also have experience teaching Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I have experience across OCR, Edexcel and AQA exam boards at both GCSE and A-Level.
Qualifications:
- History Undergraduate Degree from the University of Nottingham.
- A levels in History, English Literature and Religious Studies.
Voluntary Experience:
-Board member of the Nottingham City of Literature Big City Reads Campaign 2026.
- Peer mentor responsible for assisting students into settling into academic life at the University of Nottingham.

I'm acutely aware of what works and what doesn't - my lessons involve getting to know the student, and building a rapport to bring the subject to life! I love working with the students I teach to figure out their best approach to each topic. I believe this is the route to achieving the best results. My lessons are highly interactive, involving active learning and recall, and making use of a variety of resources to best fit any individual's learning style. I tailor my courses specifically to my students' goals, whether entrance exams or public assessments, with a focus on weaker areas. Continual recap and revision play an important role in my lessons, as evidence-supported routes to long-term understanding. I like to incorporate a significant amount of essay practice and discussion: many students struggle to understand what exactly it takes to write an outstanding history essay. I'm here to break that down into logical, understandable steps, which allow for significant progress even in a short period of time.
