About Joseph Almar

I am someone who dreams big and works hard to achieve those dreams. Education has always been a top priority for me, and I am dedicated to learning everything I can to succeed in life.

In addition to my studies, I am also extremely passionate about my PhD research and photography.

But what sets me apart is my ability to really listen. As a student, I always made sure to understand my own learning style, and I use that experience to help others reach their maximum potential.

I have experience in teaching and am adaptable and assertive, which will enable me to become an effective tutor. My most recent teaching experience is with first-year students of the Talented Science Program at the University of Sydney, where I supervised their research projects for four semesters.

I take pride in my flexibility, demonstrated through the various roles and responsibilities I have undertaken in my professional career and academic background. I graduated with a Magna Cum Laude award for my Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines and with First Class Honours (Straight A+ student) for my Masters in Energy from the University of Auckland. I am currently a holder of the University of Sydney Research Training Program scholarship for my PhD Program. This scholarship is only awarded to people with promising futures and good academic and professional backgrounds.

I supervised first-year students from the Science Talented Student Program in their research projects on the techno-economic assessment of transportation and hydrogen production. I held weekly meetings with the students to guide them through the research process, report writing, and presentation of their work. This includes teaching the students the technical aspects of hydrogen technology, mathematical modelling, and effective project management in research. Last semester, I included training the students in techno-economic modelling of power systems electrifying off-grid communities in Australia.

Semester 1 2022 - Techno-economic assessment of sea transportation of hydrogen
Semester 2 2022 - Techno-economic assessment of land transportation of hydrogen
Semester 1 2023 - Market research of technology cost for hydrogen production
Semester 2, 2023 - Techno-economic modelling of clean power systems for off-grid communities in Australia

I believe that effective communication is one of the critical factors in delivering successful results as a project manager in all the projects I have handled. My ability in verbal, written, and presentation skills have been demonstrated through the following:
 I led the communication work of the geothermal projects in the Philippines, including facilitating discussions among the site team, service providers, and management. I led the preparation of reports and presentations for the investors and board.
 My role in AusNet Services required me to communicate between the internal resources and the RE Developers (clients).
 I have contributed to preparing documents for various project acquisitions in Indonesia, Kenya, and the Philippines.
