About Anna
I am 2nd horn at Scottish Opera, and alongside my playing work have taught at many different levels. Although I have recently moved to Glasgow to start this playing job, while I was in London I covered teaching at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, the Royal College of Music Junior Department and the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department, as well as having my own teaching practice based in Cambridgeshire where I doubled the size of the horn department at one school and got loads of new kids playing. I am already teaching privately in the Glasgow area but looking to do more – it’s something I love and enjoy that complements my playing life! I enjoy all the different personalities and learning styles I see day-to-day, and enjoy the problem-solving aspects of teaching too.
I also teach natural horn, and have played with a number of ensembles that specialise in this (The English Concert, education work for Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Dunedin Consort etc).

With 15 years’ experience teaching at all levels from beginner to postgraduate students at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, I am offering horn lessons and trumpet lessons from my flat in central Glasgow (or potential travel by arrangement).
I am a friendly and supportive teacher, but with enthusiasm backed up with knowledge – I think it’s easier to enjoy playing if you’re also seeing some progress! I invest and believe in all my students and love problem-solving. I try to make lessons fun and balanced but structured, and I write up clear lesson notes for under-18 students (and some older students too…) so everyone knows what they’re working on. I try to tailor my teaching to each individual student.
One of my greatest joys has been seeing students come through and progress – some of my students have gone on to specialist music schools, county and national youth ensembles and to junior departments.
Adult learners are very welcome – whether for the occasional consultation or on a more regular basis!
