About Pedro

Hi! My name is Pedro. I am a PhD student studying Biotechnology at Imperial College London, and I completed my undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at University College London. I am interested in a broad range of topics; bio manufacturing, biotechnological waste removal, carbon capture, disease research, and more as I believe biotechnology can solve so many global challenges. Most of all, I am incredibly passionate about teaching science to the minds of the future. I believe many challenges of the future can be solved by inspiring the next generation through science, and I have a strong track record in this area, with my previous students going on to achieve A's and A*'s in their GCSE's and A Levels. My strong academic record of mostly A*’s throughout GCSE’s and A Levels is a result of a thoughtful and structured approach to revision and exam technique, which I enjoy sharing with others. I am also well placed to advise prospective students on university applications and interviews, as I successfully navigated these important but difficult hurdles multiple times throughout my academic career at top academic institutions. My main hobby at university is Muay Thai (a martial art originating from Thailand), having been the president of the club at my previous university UCL. It helps me improve my strength, fitness and teamwork skills. Part of my responsibility as an experienced member of the club at my new university (Imperial) is to work with less experienced members to improve their skills and confidence, placing me in good stead to be a tutor for academic study.

Hi! I have 5 years of tutoring experience across all STEM subjects (Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and more) from GCSE to A-Level. I also tutor humanities subjects to 11+, 13+, and GCSE Level. My tutoring starts with effectively judging a student's current level in a given subject, identifying clear goals and planning a strategy for revision. This is always established through quality communication with parents/guardians and students so that both parties are aware of where we are starting from, where we are aiming to go, and how we are going to get there. The lessons will be structured using a framework that I have used to excel in UK examinations. After an initial assessment of student's level in a subject using practice questions from different topics, there are two main routes. If a student is already at a high level in the subject, we would focus on covering challenging practice questions in all areas of the content to aim for the highest possible grade. If the student is starting from a lower level, an extensive amount of engaging visual examples and discussions are implemented to improve said weaknesses and cover the remainder of their learning content. We will then cover areas they are already knowledgeable in using practice questions to increase their confidence before tackling weaker areas of knowledge with more challenging practice questions.
