About Farouk

Hi there! You can call me Mr. F. I am a qualified special educator. I specialize in working with students with special needs of all ages. I have also worked in both special education center and mainstream school for over 8 years and I have practical experience in helping students irrespective of their academic functioning surpass their IEP goals. Currently, I work in the capacity of a team leader where I evaluate inclusive education programs for schools, facilitate meetings with local and international education stakeholders, train teachers in providing differentiation in the classroom, update special education database for schools, monitor and implement universal design for learning framework, and remodel the Special Education Need policy for schools. I also assist students with special needs writing Checkpoint/IGCSE obtain access arrangements from the British Council that will enable them have a fair chance at making good grades. Similarly I have a good working knowledge of psychological first aid, discrete trial teaching and applied behavior analysis for behavior modification. I have also worked as a SENCo.

About the lesson

My lessons are mostly one-on-one, except I am required to train teachers; in which case group facilitation is mostly desirable. After the initial meeting where we discuss background information, I conduct an assessment to determine the complexity of the need. Subsequently an Individualized Education Plan will be drawn to meet those peculiar needs. Lessons are structured in bite-size to encourage easy assimilation, and additional knowledge will not be taught unless previous ones have been mastered. Videos, pictures and online educational games will be incorporated to enable concrete understanding. Parents/guardians will also receive progress reports. In most cases, negative behaviors that could disrupt learning must be addressed before lessons properly commence. And in order to achieve this I usually provide feedback to parents/guardians about observed behaviors and what actions were taken to curtail it. That way parents/guardians are in the know, implementation of behavior modification measures are carried out by every stakeholder involved, and lesson progresses.
