Couples Massage & Relaxation Lesson Plan Duration: 1 Hour Objective: Teach couples basic massage techniques and relaxation practices to enhance intimacy, reduce stress, and promote mutual care. 1. Welcome & Intention Setting Briefly introduce the purpose of the session: connection, trust, and relaxation. Ask each partner to share one intention or something they appreciate about the other. 2. Breathing & Grounding Together Guided deep breathing exercise (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 6). Brief body scan to help both partners become present and relaxed. 3. Introduction to Touch & Communication Explain the importance of mindful, respectful touch. Teach basic communication cues (e.g., “more pressure,” “softer,” or “that feels good”). Emphasize non-verbal cues and trust-building. 4. Guided Massage Practice – Partner A Partner A gives a massage to Partner B. Focus areas: shoulders, neck, upper back, and hands. Teach gentle kneading, gliding (effleurage), and circular motions. Encourage feedback and staying connected through touch and eye contact. 5. Switch Roles – Partner B Partner B massages Partner A using the same sequence. Remind them to stay present, listen to each other’s body language, and enjoy the experience. 6. Closing & Connection Invite couples to hold hands or sit close and share what they enjoyed most. Optional: Share one word or phrase about how they feel now. Offer suggestions for continuing massage at home as a weekly ritual. Materials Needed: Massage oil or lotion Towels or pillows for comfort Calm background music (optional) Soft lighting Outcome: Couples will leave feeling more connected, relaxed, and confident in using massage as a way to nurture each other and reduce daily stress.
