About Frank

I'm a Senior Data Engineer at REA Group (the company behind realestate.com.au and property.com.au), where I design and build production systems used by millions of people every day. My day-to-day work spans Python, TypeScript, SQL/PostgreSQL, and cloud infrastructure (AWS) — building APIs, data pipelines, and services that meet strict reliability and performance standards. I've also been trusted to lead complex technical migrations, improve system reliability, and mentor teammates on best practices — so I understand not just how to write code, but how to explain it clearly to others.

Outside my day job, I'm a hands-on maker who enjoys electronics, hardware and mechanical projects, which keeps me close to the practical, problem-solving side of technology beyond just software.

I got into tutoring because I remember what it was like learning to code — the confusion of cryptic error messages, the "aha" moments when something finally clicks, and how much faster progress is with the right guidance. Having worked with junior engineers and mentored colleagues professionally, I know how to break down complex ideas into manageable steps and adjust my explanations to how each person learns best.

About the lesson

I believe the best way to learn to code is by building things that actually matter to you — not just following along with generic exercises. As a working software developer and data engineer with hands-on, real-world experience across backend APIs, cloud infrastructure, and full-stack web development, I teach the same practical skills and habits I use professionally every day.

My approach is personalised to each student. Before we start, I take the time to understand your current level, your goals (whether that's passing a subject, switching careers, building a personal project, or levelling up at work), and how you learn best. From there, I build a flexible lesson plan around you — we might work through core concepts step-by-step if you're a beginner, or dive straight into a real project (like building a web app, an AI-powered tool, or a database-backed system) if you're more experienced and want to learn by doing.

I keep lessons practical and project-based wherever possible. Rather than abstract theory, you'll write real code, debug real problems, and understand why things work the way they do — which builds confidence and skills that transfer directly to real jobs or personal projects. I'm patient, clear, and happy to slow down, repeat, or approach a concept from a different angle until it clicks.

Lessons are available online or in person, and I'm happy to work around your schedule, including evenings and weekends. Whether you're a complete beginner curious about programming, a student needing exam or assignment support, or someone looking to break into tech, I'll tailor every session to help you make real progress toward your goals.
