About Sky
I've been photographing for several years now, focusing on street photography and darkroom techniques. Photography grew out of my poetry practice, a way to connect emotionally with the world around me with authenticity and spontaneity. I hope to share with you the beauty and the fun that can be had with a camera, which is easy to start using but hard to master.
I've exhibited my photography in Japan and here in SF. I taught myself most of what I know, breaking it down into simple terms for myself and for curious friends as I learned different techniques. I love sharing what I've discovered on this journey, so I hope to share it with you.

The best way to learn photography is to just do it. A lot of it. I'll assign you to take a certain number of photos a week, so that you get comfortable with not being precious with the shutter and begin to see what you already have an eye for, and what skills you need to improve in order to get the kinds of shots you wish.
We'll make it fun with different constraints that will help you walk out the door and become more observant with your camera. Take pictures of only blue things. Take pictures of shoelaces. Take pictures of people in groups of three.
I can teach you how to go analog with a film camera, how to print in the dark room, how to make all kinds of alternative photo prints like cyanotype or the mysterious mordançage technique. Let's learn how to cut up reality into these slices of light we call a photo!
