Beginners:
My approach is to teach you the tools needed to get programming and exploring the world of development for yourself. We will focus on the basic building blocks of programming to give you a strong foundation.

I provide flexible informative lessons, based on your level of experience. I have a set of examples you can take with you and work on from the very first lesson.

Students:
My role is to aid you during your academic journey. We will look into your current development setup, ensuring strong foundations in OOP, data structures & algorithms, as well as essential coding practices (GitHub, Unit Testing, Clean Code).

We will take the theoretical concepts and put them into practice, to ensure your understanding. We will work through labs or projects, taking them step by step, and ensuring your understanding.

Career Changes:
Many people are looking to add programming, data science, or AI skills to their skill set.
My role is to give you advice on your first steps, and understand what you are looking to achieve, working with you to achieve your goals.

Get in touch if you feel you are any of the above. I look forward to working with you!

I will send a Google meet's link well before any scheduled lessons to ensure we are prepped and ready for the lesson well in advance.

  • Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

My first experience using a computer was in Prep School when IT classes comprised of playing MathIsFun- Computer games designed to make you use your mathematics skills, turning you into a 'mathlete'. They were always one of my favourite classes of the day.
  • What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

I believe the evolution of remote observation ranging from a variety of sources including the multiple spectrums of satellite imagery, acoustic sensors, remote cameras, ROVs, etc marks a turning point in technological evolution. Specifically, the capability to interact and monitor our immediate environment in an unparalleled manner such that we may better interact, with and conserve our environment. A critical issue of our times.
  • Explain your expertise, your interest in it, and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

My expertise in computer science stems largely from a Bachelor of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. I am currently specializing my expertise in the application of AI and Data Science in the conservation and observation of the environment in order to understand and make a difference in the critical issue of global warming.
My current expertise is in the field of wildlife image classification using additional environmental information to improve classification.
If you are interested, I am always happy to chat through this topic as it's something I really enjoy!
  • Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

I believe that visionaries such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerburg laid the foundations of the world of computing through their many businesses, projects, and goals and as such are incredible role models, however, I believe that the application of IT within the world is changing and we need to be constantly on the lookout for the next visionaries and ideas to support in order to drive the field forwards.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my bachelor thesis, I found myself grappling with a particularly painful problem. It was one of those head-scratching situations. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I turned to a friend who was also in the same degree program. I figured bouncing ideas off someone might help me see the light.
So, I spilled out the intricate details of the problem, laying out every twist and turn that made the problem seem like a complex maze. I expected him to nod understandingly in sympathy and maybe offer a complicated solution. But instead, he leaned back, gave me a wry grin, and hit me with some memorable wisdom: "Keep It Simple, Stupid."

At first, I must have had a perplexed look on my face because he simply chuckled and elaborated on the meaning of KISS - "Keep It Simple Stupid." It was like a lightbulb switched on in my mind. Here I was, over-complicating things, drowning in unnecessary intricacies when the solution could be as straightforward as just simplifying the whole mess.

It was a classic case of missing the forest for the trees. In the end, I took his advice to heart, boiled down the problem to its core essence, and started working from there. And wouldn't you know it? The fog began to lift, and suddenly, the path forward became much clearer. That moment taught me a valuable lesson - sometimes the best way to tackle a seemingly complex problem is by embracing simplicity.
  • What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

Based on my previous anecdote I would advise them to follow the KISS principle. Elaborating further, I would explain that the field of IT seems complicated and intimidating at first. However, breaking down your goal into simple stepping stones vastly reduces the complication and gives clear attainable goals for you to reach.
  • What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

My other passions include Scuba Diving. I worked as a PADI Divemaster in Tofo, Mozambique where I interacted with Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, and loved every minute of it. It was one of the reasons I am so passionate about applying technology to the environment, especially to the ocean.
  • What makes you a Superprof in IT?

I believe I am a Superprof in IT due to wanting to help my students and that I am always willing to go the extra mile, from making additional exercises, and projects, and researching topics these may be interested in to provide an engaging and exciting experience. I also believe that my interest and belief in my students as individuals and what they want to accomplish makes me a Superprof. I want to help them reach their goals and get to know them along the way.
