I am a student at Calvin University, studying Computer Science. As a sophomore, I founded the Calvin University Chess Club with a group of my closest friends. We hold weekly meetings where we study chess theory and openings, and have held multiple tournaments.

My teaching philosophy combines systematic skill-building with strategic imagination. I emphasize understanding over memorization - training students to think like the players, not just remember moves. Lessons include but are not limited to:
Conceptual learning: Explaining openings, tactics, positional play, and endgames using interactive examples.
Practical application: Simulated games, decision-making challenges, and timed puzzles to develop critical thinking under pressure.
Reflective analysis: Reviewing past games to identify recurring patterns, helping students to truly play like a grandmaster.
Technology is also part of my toolkit. I use chess.com to analyze positions and review historical chess games.
