About Hannah
Hi, I'm Hannah :)
I'm a King's College London Philosophy graduate (2:1) and a qualified teaching assistant with experience across both mainstream and SEND settings. I offer one-to-one phonics, reading and primary literacy tuition online for children needing extra support, and homeschoolers.
My background -
I've worked with children from Early Years through to Key Stage 3. I am trained in phonics teaching, providing one-to-one phonics tutoring children who need extra support.
I've also worked in specialist SEND provision supporting neurodivergent children and children with additional needs such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Speech disorders, and physical disabilities.
Alongside primary literacy I tutor A-level Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy and Criminology (I achieved A*, A and B at A-level), and I help with personal statements and university applications — I applied successfully to both King's College London and UCL.
About you -
School can be a lot. Thirty people in one room, everything moving quickly, and someone might ask you to read out loud at any moment. If you find that hard, it doesn't mean anything is wrong with you.
With me it's different. We go at your speed. You don't have to put your hand up, you don't have to read in front of anyone, and you never have to pretend you understood something when you didn't. If you need a break, we take one.
I became a teaching assistant because the best part of my day was always sitting with one person and working something out together. My favourite moment is when someone reads a word they couldn't read the week before and looks genuinely surprised at themselves.
Whether you're at school or learning at home, autistic, dyslexic, have ADHD, or just find reading hard and aren't sure why, we'll figure out how you learn best and go from there.

What my lessons are like -
Sessions are one to one and online, usually 30 to 45 minutes. Short enough that a young child stays genuinely engaged rather than drifting, but can be made longer upon request.
We start with what your child can already do. That matters, because a child who has fallen behind in reading usually knows it, and the quickest way to lose them is to begin with what they can't do. From there we build steadily through structured phonics, blending and reading practice, at whatever pace suits them.
My sessions are calm and unhurried. There's plenty of encouragement and no pressure. If something isn't landing, we come at it a different way rather than pushing harder.
Who I work with -
Primary children who are finding reading difficult. I specialise in tutoring homeschooled children, children with dyslexia, children with ADHD, and children who have become anxious about school or stopped attending. I'm used to adapting to how a child actually learns, rather than expecting them to fit a method.
Practical details -
All lessons are online, so we can work around your schedule. The first lesson is reduced, so you and your child can see whether I'm the right fit before committing to anything.
If you'd like to talk through what your child is finding difficult, do get in touch
