About Nick

Who is Nic? I am a fully-qualified Latin, Greek, and Classics teacher - having qualified from the University of Cambridge, and taught at some of the best schools in the Cambridge area! I am extremely well-qualified, and well-placed to assist with your goals. I graduated from the University of Cambridge having studied Latin, and Classics teaching. I also hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Nottingham where I read Classics - specialising in Ancient Greek. In particular, I wrote, and read extensively on the works of Lucian of Samosata - an Ancient Greek-Syrian author simply obsessed with the finest Attic Greek around! Throughout my time in education - both as a student and as a teacher - I have consistently strived to put students first. Be it as a peer mentor while on my undergraduate degree, or as a teacher shepherding my Year 7s through their very first declension.

About the lesson

My lessons are all about you, and your language learning goals. Whether you're preparing for exams, or coming to the world of Classics for the first time - I'm here to help! My student-led approach has led to lesson plans that are dedicated to helping you with your goals - I focus on vocabulary acquisition, and grammar familiarisation, all while engaging with the history, and cultures of the Ancient Greeks, and the Romans - all at your pace, and your level! At KS3, and into GCSE, I use textbooks (such as De Romanis) that include as much cultural context about the ancient Romans as possible to enhance your learning. I also aim to extend your vocabulary through guided-readers such as Familia Romana, and other novellas. For Ancient Greek, we work through Athenaze at your pace - ensuring that you have as much time as possible to soak up the language. Additional working is supplemented by my own resources, actual Latin from Eleanor Dickey, and John Taylor's "to GCSE" (and beyond) textbooks. For A-Level students, I aim to spend as much time with the set-text authors as possible - while offering language consolidation sessions where we focus on a particular item of grammar, and expand upon it. For adult learners, I recommend a more curated approach where the content can be more personalised to your level, and your requirements - all of which will be discussed in the initial lesson. No matter what your goals are, I am more than happy to assist, and help you achieve your language learning dreams! With me, you will learn to read the language with confidence, as well as be able to analyse it. My lessons are open to all kinds of students from KS3 to KS5, University level, and adult learners too!
