About Hanzhong

I am a passionate Chinese cooking enthusiast with years of home-based experience and currently work part-time as an instructor at a Chinese restaurant. In this role, I help train new kitchen staff and lead small-group sessions on preparing traditional dishes like handmade dumplings, stir-fried vegetables, and classic noodle soups. This hands-on experience has allowed me to refine my techniques, understand authentic flavor profiles, and master the pacing and workflow of a real kitchen. As a tutor, I bring a warm, patient, and clear teaching style. I take pride in making every step of the cooking process approachable, even for beginners. My lessons are not just about recipes—they also explore the cultural significance and stories behind each dish, which helps deepen appreciation for the cuisine. Whether you're a student missing food from home, a cooking enthusiast looking to learn new skills, or someone eager to explore Chinese culture through food, I’m here to support your journey.

Are you curious about authentic Chinese food and want to learn how to cook it yourself? My lessons are perfect for beginners, food lovers, and anyone interested in hands-on learning. I specialize in teaching home-style Chinese cooking, with a focus on dumplings, stir-fried dishes, noodles, and traditional soups. Whether you're looking to impress guests, connect with Chinese culture, or simply enjoy delicious homemade meals, these lessons are a great place to start.

Each session is designed to be fun, interactive, and beginner-friendly. We’ll go through ingredients, preparation steps, and cooking techniques together. You’ll learn how to make dumpling dough from scratch, fold different shapes like crescent or money-bag dumplings, and cook them through boiling, steaming, or pan-frying. I’ll also show you how to make balanced stir-fries, hearty soups, and classic dishes like tomato egg or mapo tofu using simple tools available in most kitchens.

What sets my lessons apart is that I explain not only how to cook, but also why we use certain techniques or ingredients, and I share stories behind the dishes. I’m originally from China, and I’ve spent years cooking with family, learning regional flavors, and adapting recipes for international kitchens. You’ll also get tips on where to buy authentic ingredients in Toronto and how to adjust recipes for dietary needs (vegetarian, low-sodium, etc.).

Lessons can be 1-on-1 or in small groups, online or in person, and are suitable for all ages. Whether you’re a university student missing food from home or a parent hoping to explore new family meals, I’ll make sure the class is tailored to your interests and pace.
