About Matthew

I’m a professional musician and live performer based in London, working across solo, band-led and hybrid electronic settings. Much of my career has unfolded in real performance environments, where listening, adaptability and audience awareness shape every musical decision.

Having grown up around professional musicians and moved early into industry work myself, I developed a practical understanding of what it means to participate in music — not just practise it. That perspective naturally informs my teaching.

I’m drawn to helping people move past hesitation and into genuine musical involvement. Whether someone is returning to music or stepping into it for the first time, my role is to create a space where curiosity is supported, standards are clear, and growth feels both grounded and sustainable.

About the lesson

These sessions are built around one simple outcome: helping you become comfortable making music with other people.

Jamming is often talked about casually, yet it relies on real listening, awareness, timing and trust. In our work together, you’ll learn how to hear structure as it unfolds, find your place within it, and contribute musically without overthinking or holding back. We focus on ear development, responsiveness, groove, and the small decisions that allow music to feel shared rather than performed at one another.

Lessons typically run for 60 minutes and are suited to beginners through developing musicians who want to step out of isolated practice and into real musical interaction. Whether your aim is to join social sessions, play with other musicians, or simply feel less hesitant when music starts, the goal is steady, practical confidence that carries into the room with you.
