About Sethukumar
Coaching and mentoring was a part of my career. I was effective in providing feedback to my team members and was able to constructively influence their growth in their careers. Of late I was an Engineering Manager with 20+ years building and scaling platforms that replace expensive vendor dependencies with in-house alternatives — most recently eliminating $20M in SAP licensing costs by leading the B2B marketplace rebuild at Blibli (Quinbay), and cutting a bank's market-data costs 30% by replacing a Thomson Reuters feed with a home-grown streaming API at ANZ.
I run teams that ship under pressure: CI/CD changes that cut deployment time 50%+, incident rates brought down through better observability and traceability, and a team I grew to 90% retention while still shipping two major releases on time. I've built this pattern across financial services, telecom, logistics, e-commerce, and edtech — Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, GCP, AWS, distributed systems, and the org design to support them.
Built an independent research project training a domain-specific LLM on Java engineering knowledge — covering design patterns, SOLID principles, cloud-native patterns, and twelve-factor methodology — with outputs across ML fine-tuning, RAG, agentic AI, and MCP-based agent orchestration and moved towards building an enterprise LLM self-sufficiency platform.

Learning Mathematics and Physics is not about memorizing formulas or solving a few textbook problems. It is about understanding *why* concepts work, *how* they are connected, and *where* they can be applied. Once this foundation is built, even difficult problems become approachable and enjoyable.
My teaching is designed for students from Grade 10 to Grade 12 who want to develop strong conceptual clarity, improve problem-solving skills, and gain confidence for board examinations as well as competitive exams.
Every student learns differently. Some require stronger conceptual explanations, while others need exposure to challenging problems that stretch their thinking. I adapt my teaching style to the student's current understanding, learning pace, and long-term goals. My objective is not just to help students score higher marks, but to help them become independent thinkers who can solve unfamiliar problems with confidence.
# What you can expect from my classes
* Strong focus on conceptual understanding before introducing formulas and shortcuts.
* Visual and intuitive explanations that make abstract concepts easier to understand.
* Step-by-step development from fundamentals to advanced problem solving.
* Extensive practice using a large collection of carefully selected questions ranging from basic to highly challenging.
* Personalized learning plans based on the student's strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations.
* Regular assessment, feedback, and progress tracking.
* Special emphasis on developing analytical thinking rather than rote learning.
# My background
I hold a Master's degree in Physics and a Master of Computer Applications. For more than two decades, I worked in the software industry in technical and leadership roles including Software Engineer, Technical Lead, Solutions Architect, Senior Architect, Technology Manager, and Engineering Manager.
Throughout my professional career, one of my most rewarding responsibilities was mentoring engineers, helping them understand complex systems, solve difficult problems, and grow into successful professionals. Teaching has therefore been a natural extension of what I have enjoyed doing for many years.
My experience outside academics also allows me to explain scientific concepts through practical examples from technology, engineering, and real-world applications, making learning more meaningful and engaging.
# Beyond academics
I also work with students and parents in the area of Career Architecting—a structured approach that goes beyond traditional career counseling. It considers evolving industry trends, emerging technologies, future job markets, personal strengths, aptitude, and long-term career opportunities.
While tutoring sessions remain focused on Mathematics and Physics, I am happy to guide students on how these subjects connect to higher education choices, engineering, research, data science, artificial intelligence, and many other career paths. This helps students understand not just **what** they are learning, but **why** it matters for their future.
If you are looking for a tutor who teaches concepts instead of shortcuts, encourages curiosity instead of memorization, and helps build problem-solving skills that last a lifetime, I would be delighted to work with you.
