About Jie

I graduated from Zhejiang University with both a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. I’ve also attained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Legal Professional Qualification Certificate after years of working experience. During the epidemic, I decided to realize my dream in education and concentrate on teaching adolescents for the rest of my life. I made the shift successfully from investment banking and became a middle school and high school teacher. Although I have not been a professional teacher for a very long time, over the last 20 years, I have been tutoring many interns and freshmen in finance and economy and many secondary students in math and science. Mostly, they have become more knowledgeable and confident after those tutoring, which helped them pass tests, get certifications or get promotions. I always encourage my tutee to get to a specific conclusion by understanding principles thoroughly rather than just memorizing. In such ways, learning should be easy, relaxed, and fun. I always believe that every learner has their own learning style. By understanding that and using the suitable teaching method, I can always help a student thrive in their journey of pursuing academic success.

About the lesson

I’ve many years of tutoring and teaching math students and have developed methods to accommodate different types of learners. My knowledge in IGCSE and AP math courses makes me well suited for middle school and high school students. If they are working towards standardized tests, the earlier they overcome the obstacles they are facing the better. 1. LESSON PLANNING A typical lesson that I give comprises of warming up, concept explanation/exploration, hands-on activities (e.g. calculating optimal braking point for a racing car) out of the student’s choice which attract them, practice and correction of misconception, and closing which allows students to develop higher order thinking. My lesson plans are always adjustable according to the student’s needs, whether on the content or on the depth of the content or the way of learning. 2. Technologies As we are in the new learning era, we have to incorporate the updated technologies for learning. Online tools will be well incorporated in my lessons which allows my students to explore at their own pace and parents to analyze their learning outcomes. 3. DEVELOPING INTEREST Although many find math hard to master, I believe there must be a way for a student to understand math concepts and thrive in their journey to higher education. Therefore, I will always try my best to understand the students’ perspectives instead of just give the course in a lecture style. Math can be fun and learn while playing. My students find time flies in my math lessons which incorporate many aspects of gaming, which help them find it more interesting. 4. EVERY STUDENT HAS THEIR OWN STYLE In my in-class teaching career, I always make good differentiation plans for the best of every single student in my class. I’ve also had experience with teaching kids with ADHD, depression, and Autism. Although they may appear differently than other students, their needs are always taken into consideration in my class.
