About Oliver

Hello! My name is Olly and I'm excited to help you achieve your academic goals. I'm a lecturer in an FE College right now, where I teach Social Science A-Levels (Politics, Sociology, and Economics) full time. I am the author of the upcoming CCEA Politics Textbook for the paper on British Politics.

I love to help inspire young people to enjoy these subjects like I do, and am confident that working with me will not only help you to ace your exams, but also to learn to enjoy Politics and Sociology much more. I also consider exam technique to be a very important aspect of tutoring, and will generally use sessions to direct students with exam-driven resources and focus on high-yield topics to maximise grades- I want my time to be good value for you.

I have a PhD In International Politics and a Masters in Violence, Terrorism and Security from Queen's University, Belfast. Both of my Dissertations were about military video games, so I'm also an expert in Call of Duty. I also have a First-Class B.A. (Mod) degree in PPE from Trinity College Dublin, so I understand how important it is to do well in A-Levels to get into a competitive uni. I hope to be really helpful and am excited to work together!

About the lesson

Online lessons involving collaborative work with the student via Teams (etc) where we discuss theory, then solve relevant questions or discuss how to do so together. Typical lessons are 1 hour and are focused on areas of concern as identified with student prior - with a focus on exam and revision technique for locking in theoretical knowledge. Suitable for Students 16+ at A-Level level. I am also able to help with uni level work with prior notification and discussion. I have 7 years of experience teaching social sciences at a Russell Group University, and am currently a full-time lecturer in A-Levels at a Further Education College. I am the author of the upcoming textbook for CCEA A-Level Politics covering the British Political Process. I currently teach the following units:

AQA Sociology:
- Education
- Theory and Methods
- Families and Households.
- Mass Media.
- Crime and Deviance.
- Beliefs in Society.

CCEA Politics:
- The Government and Politics of Northern Ireland
- The British Political Process (Both options)
- Political Power
- Comparative Politics: US/UK

AQA Economics: Teach the Full A-Level, Macro Specialist.

First lesson is free, but will be used as a 'diagnostic session' to allow me to work out your needs and prepare a course of study.

Prices are for a 1 hour lesson which will often consist of reviewing a piece of homework given in the previous session, looking at strengths and weaknesses and 'marking it together', then looking at a new topic with work being given afterwards. Lessons are highly exam focussed, especially in the run-up to exam season.
