About Marianna (Sjanel)
I am a qualified and licensed English teacher with a B.Ed. FET degree from the University of Johannesburg. I obtained my degree cum laude and I majored in English and Psychology. I have several years of teaching experience in a high school setting as well as several years of tutoring experience in a University setting across a range of subjects. I excel at supporting struggling students with scaffolding and differentiation activities that allow them to better understand the material and raise their marks. Furthermore, I am experienced at teaching studying methods and exam taking skills to students that can be applied to any subject.

My approach to teaching has always been learner centered rather than teacher centered. I prefer to start by assessing my learner's current level of understanding, syllabus, academic goals and learning preferences. This allows me to tailor our sessions to suite their specific needs. I believe that every child can learn and excel if they are willing to do the work and if the teacher provides appropriate scaffolding. Children learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process rather than passive observers.

Details
I am willing to travel further than 10km from my home if I am reimbursed for driving the additional distance. This cost can be negotiated based on the distance I would have to travel. In order for me to travel further I would require a minimum booking of 2 hours. For a 4 hour booking within 20km of my home I would waive the travel fee.
I am willing to offer the first hour free because we will spend that time getting to know each other as well as assessing your needs and curriculum. I find this to be a critical aspect of successful tutoring because it allows me to tailor all our future sessions to your specific needs and preferences.
