About Nicholas

Hello, my name is Nick Cohen, a professional tutor in the greater LA area. Thank you for taking the time to read my ad.

CREDENTIALS AND BIO

During middle school and high school, I had a low motivation to do well in my academics. By college, I turned myself around, practicing excellent study habits and proactive learning. As someone who has overcome the challenge of finding personal meaning from schoolwork, I can relate with my less motivated students and show them a way out.

I attended Grinnell College and graduated in three years with a double major in math and physics and a GPA of 3.9. Grinnell College is ranked in the top 25 of most difficult colleges in the US and is ranked the 14th best liberal arts school. While in college, I tutored middle school students in math.

I love math and physics and I enjoy working with people. I am currently completing a Master's of Social Work at Cal State LA. My future plans consist of starting a mental health treatment center and running for public office.

I have a pet snake named Santiago.
I like to hike, draw, and play music for fun.

About the lesson

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

The key to successful tutoring is developing a good relationship with the student and parents. I make sure that my students look forward to our session, so that they may give their full energy during our meetings. I accept my students for who they are as people, regardless of skill level. I use positive psychology to draw upon my students’ intrinsic motivation. I am passionate about teaching and this translates to a contagious energy when tutoring any and all subjects.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Mathematics: Common core through college level calculus and differential equations
Physics: 8th grade physics through AP Physics C and college physics
Test Prep: ACT, SAT, IC Exam, GRE
Working with learning differences: autism spectrum, ADD and ADHD, delayed executive function development
