About NATALIE

Whether you want to become the next 'big thing', or you just want to start a new hobby, my fresh and friendly teaching approach will make you feel comfortable to reach your goals. I specialise in popular/contemporary vocal tuition and I am based in Barcelona.

I have over 15 years teaching experience in schools, colleges, workshops and privately in the UK (10 years) and now in Barcelona (For the last 5 years). Barcelona is a very international city and while living here I have had the opportunity to teach students from all over the world.

What makes me a good singing teacher is that alongside my work I also perform live on the gigging circuit, working with top musicians, recording with up and coming producers and writing and releasing my own songs. My songs have been aired on the radio and I have learnt first hand about the music industry and the skills that are required to be a successful artist in this day and age. I am always developing and improving my own singing ability and technique.

About the lesson

You don't need to be an experienced singer, I teach students of all levels. Many of my new students have never had a singing lesson before. In our first lesson we will talk about what you want to achieve and the goals you would like to work towards. I will introduce to you the importance of developing a good breathing technique using the diaphragm, give you vocal warm ups to practice and build up your repertoire.

My main aim in the beginning is to build up your confidence, broaden your knowledge and give you warm ups to practice in your own time.

With new students I introduce you to breathing techniques and warm ups, vocal warm ups and exercises to stretch your vocal range. Together we compile a list of personal singing goals, which may include vocal and diaphragm technique, articulation (mouth shaping), posture, ear training, strengthening and vocal projection, vocal control, vocal texture, improvisation, harmony, rhythm and tempo, sight reading, live performing technique and overall singing skills.

We start the session with a short physical warm up to stretch the body before we do any breathing exercises. Then we warm up and stretch the diaphragm and move on to a selection of breathing exercises. We go through some vocal warm ups. I have a wide variety of vocal warm ups, including scales, sirens, intervals and melodies. We practice rhythm, projection, dynamics, harmony and ear training.

The main aim is to learn to control your voice. I have a comprehensive and eclectic back catalogue of repertoire at your disposal, but students can choose the songs they want to sing too.

My second instrument is the acoustic guitar. I accompany all my students on it. I can record your very own individual guitar accompaniment to any song you want to practice with, in whatever key suits your voice. A lot of my students mention how much they love to sing with a guitar accompaniment and it's what makes my singing lessons unique.

24 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule an online private lesson. Once a session has been booked, your lesson will have been planned and your time slot reserved. You will be required to pay a £20 cancellation fee if less than 24 hours notice is given.
