About James
I am a Master in Theoretical Physics and went to the University of Leeds. I have received training from the tutor trust, a well-respected tutor organisation that operates in the north of England, and I've always had a passion for teaching others. I have worked in labs performing experiments in circuit theory, quantum mechanics and all other areas of Physics. Being a theorist, my path took me down a more mathematical route as I progressed through my degree, so I am also very well suited to teaching A-level maths. I have always been an empathetic person, and I believe this to be very important when attempting to view a problem from a students' perspective. Communicating with students and appreciating their outlook on the subject would hopefully allow me to guide them to a correct answer whilst giving them understanding.
During my own time in education, I have always been passionate about sharing ideas with my peers. My first exposure to teaching was a short stint of work experience at Cedarwood Primary school, helping with year three classes. The teacher who supervised me described as the best work experience assistant she ever had, and that has always stuck with me.
I looked to pursue this passion further when at University with The Tutor Trust. After a successful application, I was able to join the trust and attend training for both Primary and Secondary school mathematics, on top of the mandatory general training. These sessions gave me useful information regarding lesson planning, use of and creation of resources, and adapting to different students requirements. Students can respond best visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning. They might also be each of these. Catering to each students' need in this regard is a powerful tool to help them progress. Unfortunately, due to administration problems and, later, the pandemic, I never had the opportunity to employ the skills I had obtained from these sessions. But this was always something I planned to change since I moved back home.

Communication with students is key, as I want to be able to understand their take on the topic in order to empathise and view it from their perspective. I can then know of any issues they may have and we can work to improve their understanding from that point. Most students respond best to visual learning, so methods like the 'bar' method are often quite effective. The best way to learn physics is through problems and solutions, so my lessons will incorporate many of these to maximise a students understanding.
I think it is very important to make learning fun, as that is exactly how I gained a passion for the topic. My lessons will always attempt to be interesting and varied.
