About Lillian

As an experienced French tutor, I am dedicated to inspiring confidence, establishing my legitimacy, and reassuring students of my professionalism. With a strong passion for language and an unwavering commitment to education, I strive to create a supportive and empowering learning environment for my students.

Having attended a French Immersion school myself, I have fallen in love with learning and teaching the French language and culture, so much so, that I am a French major with departmental honors at Seattle University. During my kindergarten and 5th-grade years, I had the privilege of doing an exchange program in France where I lived with host families and fully immersed myself in francophone culture. Continuing my passion for French at university, I studied abroad in Lyon, FR my junior year where I was elected as a representative for the C1 level French cohort of international students in the Culture and Language Institute at UCLy; I received my C1 language diploma in Dec. 2022.

At Seattle University's Learning Assistant Program, I have the privilege of tutoring students at all levels of French proficiency, ranging from A1 to C1. My role is not only to provide academic support and guidance but also to foster the holistic development of undergraduate students studying French. Additionally, I have had the rewarding opportunity to work with elementary-aged students in Immersion programs for 3 years, broadening my experience and versatility in the realm of language education.

About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach is dynamic, engaging, and tailored to the individual needs and learning styles of my students. I believe in creating a supportive and interactive learning environment that encourages active participation and fosters a love for the French language and culture.

In terms of teaching methods and techniques, I employ a communicative approach, focusing on developing all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Through a combination of conversations, role-plays, interactive exercises, and multimedia resources, I aim to enhance students' fluency, accuracy, and confidence in using French. I also emphasize the importance of cultural immersion, incorporating authentic materials and discussions on French traditions, literature, and current events.

A typical lesson plan with me involves a balance of structured activities and student-led discussions. We begin by reviewing previous material, followed by introducing new concepts and vocabulary. I provide clear explanations and offer plenty of opportunities for practice and application. Additionally, I encourage students to ask questions, seek clarification, and actively participate in class discussions and activities.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my first-hand experience of living and studying in France. This exposure has not only deepened my understanding of the language but also enriched my knowledge of French culture, customs, and nuances. I bring this authentic perspective into my lessons, immersing students in the real-world aspects of French language and society.
