About Alissa
I'm a self-taught non-professional chef. I started out as a latchkey kid that quickly tired of cereal, and started observing and mimicking my grandmothers in the kitchen. As an event planner, I found myself handling small-scale catering needs for specialty events. These days, I'm the first person my friends and colleagues hit up for help/advice in the kitchen, and I'm famous for my holiday meals (with a sign-up list of individuals requesting meals). Sometimes I rely on "cheats" of pre-made sauces that I personalize, sometimes I make everything from scratch. And I tend to avoid one-use appliances, so my tools are mostly universal.

Because great cooking doesn’t need complicated ingredients – just creativity and guidance. I specialize in teaching new chefs and beginners how to make the most out of what they already have in their kitchen, including pre-made ingredients (i.e. jarred sauce, frozen vegetables) and from raw materials. Whether you're sick of delivery prices, or want to impress someone, we'll touch on both basics and advanced cooking components. My goal is to show you that you don’t need a pantry full of rare spices or expensive ingredients to create delicious comfort meals for an individual or a family. I teach both how to create on-the-fly meals from basic ingredients (including recommendations on pantry staples to have on hand), and how to meal prep for a busy week/month.
