About Jesse
My name is Jesse, and I’m a professional woodwind doubler based in Bristol. Most of my work at the moment is with the Dutty Moonshine Big Band, playing tenor sax, clarinet and flute with them on various tours and at festivals around the country and beyond. I’ve also spent time working on cruise ships, playing woodwinds in show bands accompanying guest entertainers and resident vocalists. In 2018 and 2019 I played in the band for a circus, touring Denmark for six months each time. But most of my background has been in playing for theatre - I’ve been in the pit bands and orchestras of various professional and amateur productions around the UK, and in particular the Edinburgh Fringe. Besides all of the above, I have experience in a number of ensembles and styles - orchestras, concert bands, big bands, function groups, and of course solo recital. I have a strong passion for the philosophy of performance, and hope to inspire others to bring this same passion to their own music making.

I am a professional musician, having graduated with a distinction in Master of Music - Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2017, and previously with Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) from Aberdeen University. I am particularly interested in offering tutoring in music theory for GCSE and A Level students, but am also happy to provide this for students and learners of any age and ability looking to make sense of certain topics, advance their skills or just have a refresh. As an experienced performer in a wide variety of settings, I also offer performance coaching - this is suitable for students of any instrument who may be preparing for a recital or exam, and have the technical facility down, but need some extra guidance in really letting themselves communicate the music to an audience or panel. After all, performance is one part technique, and many more parts storytelling! All of the above is available for school students aged 14 upwards, university students, and adults, however I am happy to discuss the needs of younger students.

Jesse is a patient and personable tutor, and their experience as a performer shows through their understanding of theory. They were particularly useful when looking deeper at how music conveys emotions and stories, which really helps in the A Level syllabus!
