I am a Mathematics and Statistics Teacher providing in-depth knowledge and understanding of various Mathematics and Statistics topics to willing and ready-to-learn students. I employ the following process while teaching my students: - Stating the Necessary Materials. - Clearly and unambiguously identifying the Objective of the lesson - Checking for Students' Background Knowledge of the topic to be taught. - Giving Direct Instruction. - Allowing Students to Practice on their own and share results and observations. - Closing remarks and final evaluation of students through Demonstration of Learning (that is, Quick Assessment). My methods of teaching/impacting knowledge into my students are explained below: I greet my student before and after every class: Saying hello and establishing eye contact, being friendly and trying to establish a common bond with them. I ask my student(s) how they got on at school the previous week, and if there is anything that they would like to cover whilst I am there. I do outline my goals for the session: Before the lesson, I draft a written outline of how I plan on structuring my time with my student during the session. Telling the student what I intend to cover, and trying to stick to it. And I sometimes diverge when I notice the class getting bored in order to cheer the class up. Presentation and discussion: I take my time to explain the topic in a methodical way, starting with the basics and building up. Educators tend to call this scaffolding. In addition to teaching the core material, I try and provide examples of how it is used in the real world – for instance, how fractions are of use in practical life (in dividing a set number of items between a group of people). During this stage of the lesson, I ensure that I am not listening too long to my own voice by ensuring that the student takes an active role, as this makes me certain that they actually understand what I am explaining. Making the tutorial session interactive also ensures that my student stays focused and interested throughout the session. Intersperse theoretical explanations with activities like role plays or games, are also included sometimes to make the students more lively. Being flexible: If I notice that my student is particularly tired or mentally drained on a given day, I try to veer them from previously laid plans and put the focus on fun. Whenever I am tutoring a student in a foreign language, I explain key phrases, colloquial terms, and idioms; sometimes, the most pleasurable and effortless ways of learning can also be the most effective! Do they really understand the topic: Tests are administered to the students at the end of the class to test their understanding of the topic Sweet endings: As the lesson draws to a close, I do tell them what they will be encountering in my next session. Telling them I have a special challenge in store for them as most students will be excited by the prospect of a new game or puzzle. I sometimes take advantage of the last few minutes to refer students to interesting websites that will provide practice tests and/or games that will enable them to reinforce their understanding of the concepts learned during the tutoring session.
