About Sophie
A recent master’s graduate at King’s College London, I specialised in theoretical physics with subjects like black holes, string theory, and quantum field theory. I have an incredible passion for mathematics and yet I understand that a lot of people hate it. There seems to be this idea that some people just “can’t” do maths and whilst it may seem that way - I’ve definitely had moments in my degree where I’ve felt like I’d hit the ceiling of my understanding - it’s often incredible what a little practice, patience, and thorough explanation can do. That’s why I am dedicated to being a tutor who puts you first. We won’t focus on your grades, but improving your confidence and mathematical ability, encouraging you to become a problem solver, and to wave away any fears of numbers and letters.

(See below for note on pricing.) The only way to become better at maths is to do it! However, many students suffer from lack of clarity and further explanation from their teaching. I know as well as anyone that maths is a subject where if you fall behind, it’s hard to catch up again. I aim to identify areas of weakness or miscomprehension, even if it means going back to something you missed in primary school because you had the flu. No question is silly or stupid. There is never any reason to be embarrassed. If you need me to explain something in 8 different ways that is what I will try to do. The most important thing is you! I want to help you become confident in your own mathematical ability! I have previously tutored Year 7-11 students. Although no one especially wants to, the summer is a great time to catch up on work, leaving you to feel more confident when going into your next year. I completed my mathematics bachelors last year at King’s College London, and have just finished my master’s this year. If you have just finished your A-Levels and would like a few lessons to give you an idea on what to expect in degree level mathematics, I am happy to help! Lessons will usually be an hour or two hours with a ten minute break. PRICING NOTE: I don’t believe that the only people who should be able to get tutoring are those who can afford it. If you are from a low income household, or experiencing financial struggles I am offering a “pay what you can” scheme where I will give up to 5 lessons for a discounted price or even for free (online only). Please reach out if this applies to you. I will not ask for any documents but if you can afford the tutoring please do not abuse this and leave it for those who need it.

Sophie has an excellent understanding of the material and explains it in a way that really makes sense.
She obviously makes a great effort to prepare for each session, creating lots of personalised material, and works hard to make topics both stimulating and interesting.
I can fully recommend Sophie as a maths tutor.Great tutor, really good at explaining concepts in various ways until students understand. Friendly and always keen to help.
