About Kass

I am a mom of two boys transitioning out of engineering and into teaching. I am studying to teach Math for the middle grades and earn a Master's degree to position myself to teach at the college level. I have one dog and four cats, so my vacuum is my best friend. I like to keep my home clean, tidy and looking nice.

I know how challenging math can be at times. I have used math for circuits, power, optics, programming, and more. I double majored at UCF to pursue a career in either Optics or Electrical Engineering. I transitioned to a teaching role after I had kids where I substituted for their school. I like to teach math for grades 6-9.

I believe the key to good grades is determination, implementing good study habits, and pushing through challenging times. I want to reassure you that you can level up. It's not scary with the right help, guidance and mindset. I hope to help you become confident and prepared for the next lesson, quiz or test.

Math is best learned by repetition. The more time that a student spends practicing problems, the more prepared they will be. Often a teacher does not have time to give individual attention to each student, and may not even solve example problems. If only simple problems are shown for their notes, how can a student answer more difficult problems that appear for homework? Most students need to see more problems being solved. Every person learns at their own pace. If they need more time to absorb new material than is available in a classroom, then how can they be prepared for the next lesson?

Challenges that arise in a classroom setting: not enough time to ask a question, not knowing how to start, and not knowing how or what questions to ask. As a result a student can get easily confused or lost when problems get more challenging. Often these problems are not even reviewed. Homework is on a computer. I've seen too many questions type problems that are difficult to understand because they can be poorly worded. This is where a tutor is helpful. I can alleviate confusion, show the math steps needed to solve, workout problems and fill in the gaps in the student's understanding.

As your child's tutor, I hope to provide the extra support and time that he/she may need outside of the classroom setting. Math is not about memorization. With one on one help, I will be able to determine where your child is struggling. The student should be prepared to work, with a positive attitude and have their math book and/or notes. I can help your child increase understanding, learn how to show their work, and identify strengths/weaknesses they may have.
