Methodology

One of the biggest aspects of my teaching methodology is to let my passion for the subject bleed out into my teaching. I find this to have a profound effect regardless of the subject. A couple other key aspects of my teaching methodology are thoroughness and patience.

Background

I am a McMaster University commerce graduate and am currently enrolled in Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education program. My eventual goal is to become a teacher. I have taught guitar and tutored mathematics in a self-employed fashion. I am a certified personal trainer and have worked in industry and retail as well.

OBJECTIVES
Use my recent education in teaching as well as my multitude of skills and experiences to make a meaningful contribution to society as a teacher.

EXPERIENCE

MAY 2019 – AUGUST 2019, CREDIT RISK ASSOCIATE, BANK OF NOVA SCOTIA
• Assessed the credit worthiness of applicants by looking at their credit risk score, credit history, financial statements, personal net worth, capacity, nature of their business/schooling, offers of security, and relationship with Bank of Nova Scotia
• Administered up to $50000 credit to Not for Profit and regular small businesses. Credit was administered in the form of term loans, revolving credit, and EFTs
• Administered up to $375000 credit to students in professional post-graduate programs. Eligible students included those training to be medical doctors, dentists, lawyers, optometrists, pharmacists, veterinarians, and to a lesser extent physiotherapists and psychologists
• Generally adjudicated anywhere between 12-20 deals a day depending on complexity and loan demand

AUGUST 2020 – NOVEMBER 2020, MATH TUTOR
• Tutored students from grade 4 up to grade 11 in concepts such as multiplication, order of operations, factoring, and functions.
• On one occasion successfully helped a man prepare for the math component on his firefighter examination. Concepts were primarily word problem and cross multiplication based.

JULY 2020 – DECEMBER 2020, GUITAR TEACHER
• Taught students of all different ages how to play the acoustic guitar
• Made notable progress with each of my students

MAY 2016 – AUGUST 2018, PRODUCE CLERK, NO FRILLS
• Built and maintained floor displays of various types of produce
• Received new product deliveries from suppliers and played the main role in ensuring that this product was stored efficiently.
• Acted as part-time headman to other part-time produce staff during evening hours. Responsibilities included making sure that the backroom was clean and excess product was stored efficiently, all of the displays were neat and full, shelves were faced, various products were covered or stored in the fridge overnight, and that the doors were locked
• Led by example in order to show other part-time staff the honor in hard work and thus encourage them to do the same and follow my lead. Used effective communication to segregate responsibility and make sure that everyone knew what their role was and was getting the job done.
• Demonstrated teamwork by ensuring that everyone was making a valuable contribution to our mutual task of closing the produce department via segregation of responsibility
• Assisted with training of new employees and quarterly product inventory

JUNE 2014 – AUGUST 2015, PRODUCE CLERK, FORTINOS
• Built and maintained floor displays of various types of produce
• Received new product deliveries from suppliers
• Moved all new product deliveries in/on various storage units in the backroom. This involved lifting and stacking hundreds of boxes up to 40 pounds. By taking on this unpopular and arduous responsibility I greatly developed my work ethic. It also required a surprising amount of intelligence and creativity to decide the most efficient order in which product could be put away and the most efficient way in which it could be stored.

OCTOBER 2009 – SEPTEMBER 2011, LEADERSHIP TEAM INSTRUCTOR, PERRINS MARTIAL ARTS
• Obtained my Black Belt in Karate and helped instruct children’s karate classes. Children I assisted in teaching were 7-12 years old
• Responsibilities generally included taking the class through a warm-up, helping the instructor demonstrate techniques, helping students execute various techniques correctly, and often taking a segment of the class and working with them directly
• This job put me in my first ever leadership role at a young age and fostered my eventual success as a leader at No Frills
