About Alex

I’m Alex, a professional educator and musician with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Indiana University. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in mathematics, while my experience teaching students one-on-one has taught me how important it is to adapt explanations to each individual. I’m patient, approachable, and genuinely enjoy helping students turn difficult concepts into something they can understand and use confidently.

About the lesson

I believe the best way to learn mathematics is to understand why something works, not simply memorize a procedure. I begin lessons by identifying what the student already understands, then work through concepts with clear explanations, examples, guided practice, and increasingly independent problem-solving. My background as a Mathematics graduate gives me a strong foundation across elementary, middle, high school, and college mathematics, while my experience as a musician and educator has taught me to adapt explanations to different ways of thinking and learning. Lessons are personalized to each student’s goals, whether they need help catching up, preparing for a class or exam, strengthening fundamentals, or developing deeper mathematical understanding.

Alex gave me private lessons for solo improv in my school and it really helped me understand what I'm playing, hear what I want to play, and play it as I'm improvising. Alex taught me what I needed to get a good ear and taught the theory to go with it really well. Would recommend!
