About Bence

I am an MSci Natural Sciences student at the University of Exeter, specialising in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Physics. My academic training has given me a strong analytical foundation, but more importantly, it has taught me how to break down complex ideas into clear, logical steps that my students can genuinely understand.

On my tutoring experience, I have been tutoring for 2 years and have experience in both GCSE and A-level tutoring. I have worked with students of all abilities and look forward to the chance to continue!

Alongside my studies, I am a national-level fencer, something which has strengthened my ability to coach, motivate and communicate clearly; skills that transfer directly into effective tutoring.

Professionally, I have experience working as a Pharmacy Counter Assistant and as a Student Ambassador, both of which required high levels of responsibility, clear communication and strong attention to safety and detail. These roles have made me approachable, patient and highly reliable when working with young people and families.

I genuinely enjoy tutoring because I find it rewarding to see students move from uncertainty to confidence. My aim is not just to help students get the right answer, but to ensure they understand the reasoning behind it so they can tackle new problems independently.

Techniques and teaching methodology:

My tutoring is built around clarity, structure, and confidence. I aim to make the student feel in control of the topic, not like they’re just memorising steps. To do this lessons should be expected to take the following form:

Diagnose first: In the first session (and briefly at the start of later sessions), I identify what’s actually holding them back, whether that is knowledge gaps, exam technique, misunderstanding of fundamentals or confidence/time pressure.

From here I explain simply, then build, teaching concepts utilising active, worked examples rather than just notes. Students spend most of the session doing questions, explaining their thinking out loud, and correcting mistakes with guidance. The lesson should be a time for the student to apply their skills and to be able to understand and solve any issues in methods.

Error-based improvement: We keep a quick “mistake log” (common errors + fixes). This is one of the fastest ways to improve grades and will be consulted frequently in each session.

I also understand the importance of exam technique and will teach how students can best pick up method marks, learn time management, and recognise question patterns.

Short, targeted homeworks (10–20 minutes) will be set and feedback given, so progress continues between sessions.

Typical length of a lesson - Most lessons are 60 minutes but for exam periods or students who want more depth, 90 minutes works well. I’m flexible depending on attention span, age, and goals.

Qualifications and experience

I’m a Natural Sciences MSci student at the University of Exeter, with a strong STEM background across Chemistry, Maths, Biology, and Physics. I’m used to explaining complex topics clearly, and I tutor in a way that is practical and exam-focused. I am predicted to graduate with a First Class Honours and have received a Dean's Commendation for academic excellence

I have 2 years of tutoring experience, originally starting in sixth form where I tutored GCSE Maths students.

Who the lessons are for:

I tailor lessons to the student’s level and goals, including:

GCSE students (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Maths)

A-Level students (Biology, Chemistry and Maths)

Ages: Typically 11–18
