About Desmond
I recently graduated from McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management, and before that I attended a rigorous preparatory high school where I graduated cum laude. Having just gone through the challenges of high school and university myself, I know what it feels like to be in your shoes. I’ve had the opportunity to work with students of different ages and levels, from coaching basketball for children ages 5–10 to tutoring high school math and university-level, business-applied math. These experiences taught me how to adapt my teaching style to different learners and keep sessions engaging and supportive. Math has always been my favorite subject, and I truly enjoy solving problems and finding new ways to explain concepts. I bring enthusiasm and energy to every session, but what motivates me most is seeing my students grow. Helping a student overcome a challenge feels like a shared success—and that’s why teaching is so rewarding to me.

The core lesson that I learned throughout my years of coaching and tutoring was that learning is not one size fits all. That's why my goal with every student is to work together to find out what works best for them.
Building on this philosophy, I ensure that the structure of my lesson plans are adaptable. While the core of my lessons usually include learning course material, completing assignments, and preparing for tests, I foster a continuous dialogue with my students to ensure that our time together is being used in the most efficient and valuable way.
I understand that preparing for tests and tight assignment deadlines can be especially frustrating. In facing these challenges, most prominently at McGill University, I have developed effective strategies that I now use with my students to teach them to overcome these difficulties. In our sessions, I will help students develop the skills and habits to confidently achieve their academic goals in the future.
