About Mariyah

Hello!

My name is Mariyah and I tutor in various GCSE level subjects including; maths and science.

I am currently studying Medical Physiology at King's College London.

I am very passionate and committed to tutoring and so hope to continue teaching alongside my career in the future.

Being dedicated and enjoying tutoring is very important to me as it is what comes across in lessons and allows students to be more engaged!

About the lesson

Having achieved top grades in these subjects and being experienced in tutoring students at GCSE level and below, I believe I am equipped with the knowledge and skills required to guide a student to success.
While completing my A-Levels I tutored GCSE students in both English language and literature in addition to maths, science and geography.
I always try my best to make lessons engaging and interactive to ensure the students can continue to focus and even enjoy their time!

My typical (1-hour) session would have the following structure:
• 10 minutes of recapping the previous topic covered using active recall techniques (such as using flashcards, quizzes or different styled questions)
• 40 minutes of teaching the current topic in depth interactively (typically using notes, videos and PowerPoints)
• 10 minutes of testing what has been learnt in the session (content-testing questions or if ready then exam-styled questions)

Active recall techniques have proven to be very effective, therefore, there would be constant testing of topics we previously covered (perhaps every couple of lessons). There may also be forms of independent work to do which we would review together if needed.

I am also happy to have tutoring sessions for homework help and assistance with school learning to support the student alongside. It can be a chance for any questions and further consolidation of content being learnt to make the student more confident.

Most importantly, I would run my lessons in a way that suits the student best - each student is unique and has their own preferences which I would take into account and work around.
