About Michael

I began playing guitar in 2009 and was originally inspired by guitar heroes Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), James Hetfield (Metallica), Michael Amott and Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy), Yngwie Malmsteen (Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) and Jeff Loomis (Nevermore).

Over the years, I've studied at various institutions such as Atlanta Institute of Music & Media, Berklee Online and recently, I completed a certificate in Audio Engineering at Avant Institute in Houston, TX.

I began teaching guitar in 2021 as an instructor at Guitar Center and have taught students from a wide array of backgrounds, cultures and ages. While at Guitar Center my students ranged in age from as young as 6 years old to as old as 42 years old. One thing that never gets old is seeing the connection to the music and witnessing that little twinkle in a student's eyes when a concept or idea clicks and their eyes light up.

One thing I try to get my students to understand is that learning an instrument isn't linear. You're going to hit plateaus and that's okay. We all hit plateaus. What's important at the end of the day is that you're having fun first and foremost and that your love of music never wanes. Together we can conquer all the mountains and plateaus and get you to where you want to be as a musician.

About the lesson

Music is highly subjective and goals differ from person to person. I begin teaching students by giving them a diagnostic test just to see where they are in their playing ability ranging from knowledge of music theory, mechanics of playing guitar, and I'll learn their ideal learning style whether they're visual, tactile, or auditory.

We don't do informal jam sessions here and call it a lesson. Each 60-minute lesson will feature a comprehensive curriculum that ranges from music theory and vocabulary to applications of theory in music you enjoy, phrasing, technique, songwriting and tone-building. At the end of every lesson, we tie it all together with a weekly assignment for the student to complete in between lessons. This could be learning a song, a solo, a riff, a mode or troubleshooting a bad habit.

I track each student's progress, provide learning materials, and ensure that with each lesson playing ability and confidence in musicianship are improving.

Being a musician is a long journey. I am honored to be apart of it.
