About Barney
Hi! I’m Barney; I’m a student at Cambridge, currently in my second year studying French and Russian. Before that I did A Levels in English Literature, French, and German.
I have two years’ experience in tutoring in French and German at all levels from KS3 to A Level and look to share my passion for languages with others.

We all have preferred ways of learning. Some people like interactive learning, some favour multimedia, some like plain and simple repetition! I tailor lessons to your preference, but if you’re not sure of your favourite style of learning don’t let that put you off - we can work it out together!
Obviously, it’s up to you what we focus on, be it more concentrated on grammar, or literature, or speaking or whatever you choose.
One thing that I often like to will always use is real excerpts from the target language’s media, for example newspaper articles, songs, etc.
Not only does this enrich your receptive language skills, it also helps you absorb new structures and - perhaps most importantly of all - vocabulary.
I will send things like this through before our lesson, along with a worksheet (if necessary for the class) that we will go through together.
We will always have discussions to further your progress, particularly if you’re looking to focus more on literary/film analysis. I’m well read in the texts of my target languages and have strategies for picking apart prose/clips and would love to help you with them!
