About Francois

Hi there! My name is Francois. I'm a curious young scientist with a passion for technology, innovation and collaboration. I work as a freelance consultant in the water and sustainability space. Outside of my consulting work, I follow my other passion of teaching and supporting young scientists in building their knowledge and sharpening their critical thinking skills. I believe that no challenge is too great, if the right attitude and skillset is applied to solve it. I love supporting my fellow young scientists to master the beautifully complex concepts and topics of interest in STEM fields. I hold three university degrees from Stellenbosch University, most recently completing my MSc in Microbiology. I also hold a BSc in Molecular Biology (2019) and a BSc Honors in Biochemistry (2020). I have tutored and served as practical demonstrator for STEM undergraduate and high school students in Stellenbosch since 2019.

About the lesson

My approach is simple. I focus on the areas the student is struggling with the most. After a brief conversation on the student's specific needs, I prepare intuitive and example-based explanations for challenging topics, provide an opportunity for questions and reinforce understanding by asking questions as we work through the content.

I am fully bilingual and can teach in both Afrikaans and English.

Sessions will depend on the need of the student, but will generally consist of an explanatory discussion with examples, followed by time to address any uncertainties. I will also prepare example questions to work through in the session, and/or as homework, as needed.

My lessons are aimed at high school and undergraduate students looking for extra support in STEM subjects, such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
