About Rodrigo
I am Rodrigo Pascale, an internationally awarded composer, who is pursuing my Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. My music has been performed worldwide by leading ensembles in new music, including the JACK Quartet, International Contemporary Ensemble, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME), Splinter Reeds, loadbang, Hypercube, Hinge Ensemble, and Sound Icon. My work has been recognized with several awards, among them a nomination for the Gaudeamus Award 2026, Residency Prix CIME 2025, the Prize in the Prix d’Été Composition Competition. My compositions have been featured at numerous international festivals and conferences, like ICMC 2024 and 2023 (Seoul; Shenzhen), SEAMUS 2022 (Kalamazoo), NYCEMF 2023 (New York City), the Australasian Computer Music Conference 2023 (Sydney), Electronic Music Midwest 2022 (Chicago), NSEME 2021, MUSLAB After and MUSLAB Planeta Complejo (Quito; Guayaquil), Espacios Sonoros 2020, the 47 Foro Internacional de Música Nueva (Monterrey), Festival Atemporánea 2023 (Buenos Aires), MANTIS 2023’s Audiovisual Installation (Manchester), the Performing Media Festival 2023 [PMF~] (South Bend), Irradia Festival 2025 and 2023 (Vitoria), (pro)STRANSTVO II (Saint Petersburg), the Research on Contemporary Composition Conference 2022 (Dahlonega), the V International Congress of Music and Mathematics 2020 (Rio de Janeiro), and the XXIX and XXXI Panorama da Música Brasileira Atual (Rio de Janeiro).
I am currently mostly working on two major projects: a composition for cello and electronics to be performed during IRCAM's ManiFESTE, and another one for ensemble and electronics to be performed in the Gaudeamus Festival 2026. During my academic journey, I had the privilege to have classes with important figures of the new music scene, such as Felipe Lara, Georg Friedrich Haas, Arthur Kampela, Joshua Fineberg, Eric Wubbels, and Michael Hersch.

My teaching style is both student-centered and tailored to each individual. My lessons include projects, which are planned with the student to maximize learning and improvement. These projects can be: a composition, a harmonic and/or formal analysis of a composition, an orchestration of a previously composed work, a recording of a song or composition, a mixing and mastering project, or any other project that improves the student's skills and artistry. In each session, the student is expected to share his progress, which is discussed through the lenses of critical listening and technical skills, depending on the topic. Whenever it is suitable, I also do some of my own musical analysis and go through foundational music theory concepts to expand the student's tools for analysis and creative purposes.
