About Olivia

Hello! I’m a native Mandarin speaker and a Biomedical Science student at Newcastle University. I am passionate about languages and enjoy helping others develop their confidence in Chinese in a friendly and supportive environment.

I have experience teaching children and understand that every student learns differently. I am patient, approachable and happy to adapt my teaching style according to each student’s age, ability and learning goals. I believe that learning a language should be enjoyable, and I aim to make every lesson interactive and encouraging.

Whether you are a complete beginner, a school student looking to improve your Chinese, or simply interested in learning Mandarin for everyday communication, I would be happy to help. I can support students with speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary while introducing practical Chinese used in everyday situations.

I look forward to helping you or your child build confidence and enjoy learning Mandarin!

About the lesson

I am a native Mandarin speaker and a Biomedical Science student at Newcastle University, with experience teaching children. My teaching approach is friendly, patient and personalised, with lessons adapted to each student’s age, level and individual learning goals.

I believe children learn languages best when lessons are interactive, enjoyable and encouraging. For younger learners and beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation in Pinyin, pronunciation, vocabulary, basic sentence structures and everyday Chinese. I use a combination of conversation practice, reading, writing, repetition, games and interactive activities to keep students engaged and help them remember what they learn.

A typical lesson is around 1 hour, although I can adjust the lesson length depending on the student’s age, concentration level and needs. I encourage students to participate actively and speak Mandarin as much as possible, while creating a comfortable environment where they are not afraid of making mistakes.

As a native Mandarin speaker, I can help students develop natural pronunciation, listening and conversational skills, as well as improve their reading and writing. My experience teaching children has also helped me understand the importance of patience, encouragement and adapting explanations to different learning styles.

My lessons are suitable for children, primary and secondary school students, beginners and anyone interested in learning Mandarin. Whether the goal is schoolwork, improving conversational Chinese, learning Chinese from scratch, or simply developing an interest in the language, I will tailor each lesson to the student’s needs.
