About Kate
Hi! I’m Kate, originally from China and now living and working in New Zealand.
I’ve been passionate about teaching since I was a child. My partner, Lonny, is actually my first and most successful student — after five years of learning with me, he now speaks fluent Chinese!
Even though I’m still gaining formal teaching experience, I’m confident in my ability to help you explore the world of Chinese language and culture. I’m a patient and encouraging teacher who always enjoys explaining cultural differences and helping students break through language barriers.
Learning a new language can be challenging, but with the right guidance and an open mind, it can also be one of the most rewarding experiences — and I’d love to be part of your journey.

I believe that learning a language should be fun, engaging and practical! My main goal is to help you actually use Chinese in real life — not just memorize words from a book. I will use a mix of conversation practice, videos, games, and cultural topics (like food, travel, and traditions) to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.
From my own experience of learning English, I know how hard it can be to learn a new language — and how important it is to understand things from a learner’s perspective. That experience really helps me connect with my students and support them better.
