About Jarrid

I arrived in England in 2017 with almost no English, and I learnt quickly that difficulty often comes not from the language itself but from how it is taught. That experience still shapes how I teach French: explanations must be concrete, contextualised, and directly useful. I later completed an MA in Translation and Interpreting, which trained me to analyse syntax, register, and meaning across languages, and to anticipate where English-speaking learners are likely to struggle. I also studied music at undergraduate level, and the use of rhythm and repetition informs how I teach pronunciation and fluency. More recently, learning Spanish reminded me of the demands placed on beginners and reinforced my view that a clear structure and a supportive environment are essential. I teach French to provide that structure, using explicit modelling and guided practice to help students progress with confidence and purpose.

About the lesson

If you require tuition that is structured, clear, and aligned with the demands of formal study, I am available to discuss your objectives. I am a native French speaker with an MA in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Westminster. I also work as an interpreter for LanguageLine. In addition to my linguistic training, I have experience in London secondary schools providing academic support in English and other subjects, including work with SEN learners. This has given me a clear sense of how students work within the structure of the UK curriculum and the kinds of difficulties that arise when preparing for assessed work. My teaching is analytic and progression-based. I begin by identifying the student’s existing command of grammar and vocabulary, then address specific weaknesses through focused explanation and short, deliberate exercises. Accuracy is prioritised, and improvement is monitored through regular review rather than impressionistic judgement. I teach GCSE and A-Level French (all components), general French for adults, and introductory skills relevant to translation and interpreting. Students who prefer a direct, academically grounded approach tend to benefit most.
