About Risa

I am myself a lifelong learner that loves everything language. Had the great fortune to grow up speaking Japanese and English in my childhood home, and later acquired Spanish to better communicate with my partner's side of the family. Love traveling and learning not only the vibrant languages spoken across the world, but also immersing myself in the unique culture. The long winter nights in a rainy climate fuel my booklust, but when the sun comes out I am always ready to go explore the beautiful PNW.

About the lesson

Whether you're planning to travel a few weeks in Japan, or getting better grades in a language course, I use a student-centered, practical approach focused on building confidence and real-world communication skills. Lessons combine conversation, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and interactive activities, always adapted to your goals and level.

A typical lesson includes a short warm-up, focused instruction, guided practice, and conversation, with helpful feedback throughout. If interested, can offer homework and resources to study for review to improve retention, accountability and accelerated progress between sessions.

What sets me apart is my TESOL training, which gives me a strong foundation in language-teaching methods and second-language learning. I don’t just speak the language—I know how to teach it clearly and effectively.

My goal is to make learning engaging, supportive, and practical, so you can feel confident using the language in everyday life.
