  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I have been raised in Spain and when I moved to India people would always be fascinated by my knowledge of the language. They would always ask me something like "say something in Spanish","Teach me Spanish". Initially, I used to teach them a few words and they would learn really quickly, that's when I realized that this is something I can pass on to people, It's something that I can pursue since I was able to make them learn a lot in very less. People would speak those words every time they saw me. That's when I decided to take it forward professionally.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

When I was in my 8th grade, there was a Spanish journalist who had come to my town in Kutchh. She had come to document the biggest fan of Charlie Chaplin for the museum in Switzerland. Her English was not very strong and she was finding difficulty in communicating her needs. It's then when one of my friends told her that I knew Spanish and I could be her translator. She not only appreciated my presence but paid me as well. That motivated me and built confidence in me. I knew that this is something that I can do well given time and experience would refine my skills.
  • How does your work help society?

Being an empathetic person, I understand the diversity and difference in everyone's lives and schedules. I believe in not changing people and always communicating so both parties are at comfort. That belief is reflected in my classes. My timings are always flexible, people who request a personalized course are taken care of, I welcome all age groups and i always encourage everyone to go for what they want. For me, it's a priority that my student has a good mental state and them having a certain control over managing classes makes them feel like we're equal, and not me who's in control of everything. That way a comfort level is developed where one will never hesitate to ask a question twice or tell me that they need a revision.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

That would be my Dad. I have learnt how to be punctual, how to always note down everything on paper for future references, how to be assertive and take my stand without being rude or hurting someone, how to always keep the right accounts and finances. Being a freelancer one needs to know how to manage a small business and my father definitely has a major role behind it. He has always motivated me to pursue this profession.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I enjoy reading fiction books and I love singing. Sometimes I also make mandalas with different mediums. I also love watching Disney movies.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

I had once been hired as an interpreter for the World Health Organization (Cuba) who was performing an audit for a pharmaceutical company in Ahmedabad. I was hired for 4 days throughout their stay in the city. Initially I was afraid it would be tiring since I was studying too and I would work after my college hours. I was afraid it may be taking too much on my plate. The day I started working I realized this language is so natural to me that it doesn't seem like work. I could probably do twice the work and not be exhausted. That's when I realized this is not something I do for money but for pure joy. It's something that makes me happy and doesn't feel stressful or weary.
