About Moa

I am just embarking on my journey working as a translator, having come home from Brussels working with translation (English/French to Swedish) for five months at the European Commission. I have thorough and extensive experience of writing essays and theses both at a bachelor and master level, as I have two degrees where I obtained the highest mark: one in peace and development studies from Uppsala University and another one in the French language from the University of Gothenburg, with a specialization in literature. Further, I have a lot of experience proofreading other people's work and for the past year I supported and mentored friends that learn Swedish in the form of online calls and correction of essays, something that has been highly appreciated.

Languages and communication have always been my main interests and something that has come very naturally to me. In addition to my passion for the Swedish language, I speak English at a mother tongue level (I obtained the highest mark on the Cambridge English exams CPE & CAE already in 2013) and I speak French fluently.

I have extensive experience working with people, both from schools, nursing homes and asylum homes.

About the lesson

Is Swedish your mother tongue but you want help with your high school or university essays or presentations that you write in Swedish? Or are you learning Swedish as a foreign language and want to become more confident when speaking Swedish – the Swedish you actually hear in society? I'm here to help you. We'll come up with a plan based on your goals and needs; then we'll continue working based on my suggestions and methods, or specific things you need help with. It's important that you define a clear goal or tell me what you need help with, so we know what to aim for.

• Proofreading: I read your high school or university essays, or any other work or document you write in Swedish. I propose changes and write comments to improve e.g. the language, structure and style. In short, I help you write more idiomatic and correct Swedish that sounds really good. If you wish, I can also comment on the actual content of the essay, as I have a lot of experience writing essays up to the master level. My areas of expertise generally fall within political science, international relations, languages and literature studies.

• Private lessons online – oral communication: Are you learning Swedish and want to become more confident when you speak? I know exactly how crucial it is to practice speaking the language you're learning regularly with a person you feel comfortable with. Our conversations can be more or less organized, depending on what you prefer. You don't need to spend time taking notes – I will summarize the most important things and send feedback and tips to you afterwards. You can feel free to ask me questions about the Swedish language. I believe in maximum input – that's why I want us to only speak Swedish during our calls. However, if you are at a beginner level, we can switch to English or French occasionally when it's really needed.
— In "free" conversations, we talk about all sorts of things and the goal is for you to become more confident, get better fluency and improve your pronunciation.
— In more "organized" conversations, we talk about more specific topics that interest you, work with specific vocabulary, we focus on certain questions and I give you tasks.

What drives me is seeing others develop skills and learn things that are actually useful. At the same time, I want the person I help to feel heard and more inspired and motivated afterwards. My motto is that learning should be engaging and fun, connected to real needs and that it should be adapted to the individual's interests and way of being. Traditional teaching methods normally don't inspire me – I try to keep up with up-to-date research on how we actually learn things efficiently. Then I let that inspire me as I help you.

Write to me if you want to practice speaking Swedish regularly and would be interested in several online calls. We'll agree on a plan and a fixed price for it all. Although I can of course give individual courses/proofread individual essays, my goal is really to build a relationship of trust that can bring good results over a longer period of time. I think that's how you really learn.
