I am a Natural Science student currently in my first year at university, while at school I volunteered to tutor a student who was performing below the school's expectations. In the year I spent with him he progressed from working at a C to working at an A standard.

My strategy is to approach areas of a subject where a student is having difficulties and slowly push them towards working out the answer themselves. It is important that they are capable of being able to do this themselves as this is the approach that is needed for exams. If the area needs additional teaching I will do that before returning to questions.
