About AUGUSTINE

"No one teaches like Mr. Augustine!" "Ohh why didn't they teach me this way?" "Mr. you make it sooo easy!" These and others are constant refrains in my tutoring and teaching sessions. It is not for nothing that hundreds and thousands of students have passed through my hands successfully over these twenty-something years in America, and most have become big people now. I make education very easy, and I take the mystery and myth out of Mathematics. What is more, I enjoy doing that - I enjoy solving the learning problem you have by explaining the concepts and making it so easy for you. It's time for you to try and be on the receiving end of the educational wonders through "TUTORING WITH MR. AUGUSTINE!" It was no surprise that in 2007 the Education chancellor of New York publicly praised me as New York's most outstanding Math Teacher for all the record successes I was making in the students! Since I enjoy doing it, I'm still at it, and probably better at it even now! Will you be the next success story?

TYPICAL LESSON PLAN :
Topic: How do we solve quadratic Equations by Factoring?
I. INTRODUCTION:
1- To solve a quadratic equation means to find the x-values, also called the roots, or the solutions. These are the points where the graph crosses the x-axes.
2- We can solve the quadratic equation by any of the following methods:
a- By factoring
b- By the quadratic formula
c- By completing the square
d- By graphing.
II. HOW DO WE SOLVE THE QUADRATIC EXPRESSION BY FACTORING?
Step 1: Factor the expression
Step 2: Equate the factors to zero and solve
Example: What are the solutions of the expression x^2 -7x + 12 ?
SOLUTION:
Step 1: x^2 - 7x +12 : Factors of x^2 are x and x (x ) (x )
Factors of 12 are 6 &2; 12 & 1; and 4 &3. Since the coefficient of the x^2, which is the "a" term,= 1, we need to pick those two factors of 12 which can add or subtract to give us the middle number. In this case, the middle number is -7. Among the three choices above, only 4&3 can give us 7, that is, -4 +-3 = -7. When we multiply -4 by -3, we will also get the "c" term, 12. So this works for us. So our factors should be:
( x-4 ) (x-3)
Step 2: (x-4)(x-3) = 0 means either (x-4) =0 or (x-3) =0
If x-4 = 0, then adding 4 to both sides, x = 4
If x -3 = 0, then adding 3 to both sides, x = 3
CHECK: If x =4, 4^2 - 7(4) + 12 = 0 If x =3, 3^2 -7(3) +12 = 0
16 -28 +12 = 0 9 -21 + 12 = 0
28-28 = 0 21-21 =0
0=0 0=0
They both work!
