About Maria

I am a NYFA-trained filmmaker, Raindance alum, and founder of an award-winning international production company with a focus on emotionally grounded, visually rich storytelling. My work has been recognized at major festivals including Edinburgh and Lift-Off, and I’ve directed projects with SAG-AFTRA actors—some of whom have appeared in Emmy-winning series and Oscar-affiliated films. I am currently developing a remote film festival that supports bold, underrepresented voices, and leading multiple original productions, including a feature and a Sundance Lab 2026 script submission. My teaching is informed by practical industry experience: I’ve provided screenwriting and post-production support to international clients via Fiverr, including a private game studio in China. I bring that same standard of collaboration and narrative precision to my students. I’ve been accepted into top UK film and creative programs including the London Film Academy, University of South Wales, AUB, University for the Creative Arts, and the University of Glasgow. Whether you're applying to film school, working on your first script, or looking to deepen your writing voice, I offer tailored guidance that blends artistic freedom with cinematic discipline.

About the lesson

My teaching style blends emotional honesty with clear structure. I focus on helping students develop visually rich, character-driven stories grounded in cinematic language. Lessons are shaped around each student’s goals—whether you're writing your first short film, building a portfolio for film school, or refining a script for festivals.

A typical session begins with reviewing previous writing or brainstorming a new concept, followed by guided exercises in storytelling, scene-building, or dialogue. I use professional techniques from my own experience as a NYFA-trained filmmaker and founder of an award-winning international production company. My students benefit not only from creative feedback but also from insight into the real-world expectations of script development and narrative clarity.

What sets me apart is my combination of emotional storytelling with technical mentorship, and my encouragement of bold, difficult stories—no genre restrictions, no "safe" narratives required. Being authentic and honest to your creative identity is the most important. Therefore, I bring that experience directly into every lesson.

These sessions are best suited for beginner to intermediate writers (all ages), aspiring filmmakers, or creative writing students looking to move into screenwriting. No prior screenwriting experience is required—just a desire to tell bold, authentic stories.
