About Caleb

I am a psychology student, and I have my BS in Psychology. I intend to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs in psychotherapy. I became proficient in undergraduate mathematics during my STEM endeavors, and I am tutoring for extra income. I am easy to talk to, patient with students, and I can empathize while tutoring, especially in Mathematics and English. I obtained my GED when I was seventeen, so I know the struggle, but if I can pass college math after a military career, I can help you do it as well. It's mostly about the discipline, and setting down to do the work. I look forward to working with you!

Typical lesson plan:

1. Check-in and Review (5-10 minutes): We'll start by briefly reviewing topics from our last session and addressing any questions that came up since then. This helps solidify prior learning.

2. New Concept Introduction (15-20 minutes): I'll introduce a new concept, breaking it down into manageable parts. This will involve explanations, examples, and often, visual aids. I'll frequently pause to check for understanding and encourage questions.

3. Guided Practice (20-25 minutes): This is where we apply the new concepts. We'll work through practice problems together, with me guiding your thinking and encouraging you to explain your steps. I might ask "What's the first thing you'd do here?" or "Why did you choose that formula?"

4. Independent Practice & Feedback (5-10 minutes): You'll work on a few problems independently while I observe and provide immediate feedback. This helps identify any remaining misconceptions.

5. Wrap-up and Next Steps (5 minutes): We'll summarize what we covered, discuss any lingering questions, and outline what we'll focus on in our next session. I might also suggest specific practice problems or resources for you to review before then.

What sets me apart as a tutor other than being an aspiring psychotherapist:

1. Focus on Process, Not Just Answers: My primary goal isn't just to get you the right answer, but to ensure you understand the process of arriving at that answer. This equips you with transferable skills for future challenges.

2. Patience and Empathy: I understand that learning can be challenging, and I approach every session with patience and empathy. I create a no-judgment zone where mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth.

3. Customized Learning Paths: I don't use a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Every lesson is designed around your specific strengths, weaknesses, and learning goals.

4. Building Confidence: Beyond academic improvement, I strive to build your confidence. As you see yourself successfully tackle challenging problems, your self-belief will grow, which is invaluable in any academic pursuit.

My lessons are for college students, high school students, and adult learners. I am proficient in most undergraduate mathematics as well as English Literature, science, microbiology, and STEM.
