About Dawn

I have been a successful tutor for 17 years. My passion is in overcoming barriers, I believe that everyone can learn maths, but not necessarily in the same way. I am waiting with the time and patience to share my knowledge of different methods to help you feel confident in exploring the world of mathematics. No matter what your barriers are, we can overcome them, so you can achieve your very best.

My expertise is in teaching maths, KS2 to KS3 (including SATs and 11-plus preparation) and GCSE preparation. My passion is in overcoming barriers, which are particularly common in maths. For those of you studying for L1 & L2 Functional maths, either at school, college or apprenticeships, I am also available for that extra support.

As for SATs, AQA, Pearson/Edexcel, City & Guilds, and OCR programmes, I use and access resources that can prepare you for similar question types, prior to exams. My BSc Maths (Hons) degree has provided me with subject knowledge and my PGCE in Primary Education, L5 Diploma in teaching maths, L4 Specialism in teaching Literacy and 7407 teaching certificate have all provided me with strategies and methods that use individual learning styles whilst providing me with a deeper understanding of those barriers to learning that with help can be tackled.

About the lesson

Hi, my name is Dawn. Your first lesson is free, as we can use it to find out about your needs through a formal or informal assessment - that will depend on you. The result of this assessment will form an individualised leaning plan. Then lessons will be personalised around those needs. I will primarily teach you to understand concepts and methods by building on your knowledge and skills. Filling gaps is essential to your progression. Just with your effort, my support and tweaking and building, you will feel that eureka moment. You can do it!

Alternatively, I offer stand-alone sessions or homework assistance that support the National Curriculum or the Adult Numeracy goals, as part of college courses. If you learn best through looking back at the work we have covered, then I send this to you, as a PowerPoint or PDF. If making a video short explaining how you answered a particular question is the solution, then that can be achieved and sent. Likewise, the whole lesson can be made into a video. All of these methods help to remind and refresh your memory and having them, means you can replay the lesson as many times as you want!

The first free lesson is about getting to know each other and allows me to assess your needs and how I may be of help to you. I offer an initial assessment, but if this is not suitable then I will assess informally. I want to put you at ease and find your strengths and those areas in need of support.
